Ingredients

  • 2 cups Self-Rising Flour
  • 1 handful crisco or lard I stick of butter crisco works great, too!
  • 1 cup buttermilk Give or take. See instructions.

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Grease a large baking sheet with crisco or lard. (Whichever you are using.)
  • In a medium bowl, mix flour and a large handful of shortening or lard until crumbly. Not too little…not too much.
  • Add enough buttermilk to have a sticky, wet mess. The wetter the better, I say.
  • Put more flour on a clean work surface, dump sticky, wet mess on surface and pat out about 1/2 in. thick (Thinner for flatter biscuits).
  • Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter (or cup or whatever you have!)
  • Bake about 10 minutes or until bottoms become slightly brown. If tops aren’t brown yet, turn on broiler until brown.
  • Brush tops of hot biscuits with melted butter. Serve with honey and more butter or molasses and more butter or jelly and more butter. (But always butter. Butter makes everything better.)
